    I often think that the first sacrifice Our Lord endured for love of mankind was leaving heaven for our sakes. He took on human flesh, which meant He probably endured some aches and pains and discomfort that would not have been necessary for Him to endure, except for our salvation. He left the glory and splendor of heaven for a life on earth during a time when there was no indoor plumbing and the many comforts we now enjoy in America! I think of this particularly when on mission trips. Many of the places I travel have conditions far below those to which I am blessed to enjoy in the comfort of my home. But in a small way, we imitate Christ. Indeed, we are called to imitate Christ. In this small aspect, missionaries endure, though for a brief period, discomfort to varying degrees, even some illness for the sake of those whom God loves. That sacrifice, though small compared to Christ’s, is precious to the Lord.

    1 Peter 2:20-21 ”…. But if, when you do well, you patiently endure suffering, this is commendable with God. For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you should follow His steps, ”
