I’ve always thought the Second Coming will be the BIGGEST EVENT of human history. It seems the great commentator Matthew Henry agrees. Without the Second Coming, ”all the other articles of the Christian faith will signify very little; this is that which fills up and gives the finishing stroke to all the rest.” (on 2 Peter 3) Amen! He continues: ”The believer not only desires that he may come, but having a promise that he will come, he is also firmly and fully persuaded that he will come.” We are admonished to be ”looking for the Day of God” and also to be ”hastening” it! (2 Peter 3:12) Now, may you understand why this is a subject I reference often in conversation. Maranatha! Come, LORD Jesus, come!

Perhaps the Book of the Prophet Zephaniah is skipped over by some who would rather not hear its proclamations of judgment: judgment on Judah (Zeph 1); judgment on the Gentile nations (Zeph 2:4-15); judgement on Jerusalem (Zeph 3:1-7); judgment on the nations: “All the earth shall be devoured with the fire of My jealousy.” (Zeph [...]

So I was watching X-Men 3 last night with my wife (in response to the new X-Men movie which is good, I recommend!), and in the middle I started thinking, “Man that’d be tight to be Wolverine!” As I was thinking about running around and cutting people’s heads off I got a gentle reminder from the [...] -

We confess this frequently at my church: “Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.” These are foundational Christian beliefs. Do you believe Christ is coming again? Many, many Scriptures reference the Lord’s Coming. Some of these just reference the “Day” or the “Revelation” but are included to show how foundational the Second Coming [...]

Liveoak Bible Church: 1 year, 11 months ago · ViewBalaam is an interesting character, but this passage is definitely confusing. I think it is easy to just read this passage and think that Balaam is a good guy. He tells Balak he won’t help him, then when he finally goes with Balak, he blesses Israel instead of curses them. Sounds like a good guy. But every other passage in the Bible about Balaam (for instance, 2 Peter 2:15, Jude 1:11, Revelation 2:14) speaks of him as very evil.
So this is one of those passages to me that shows how easily we can totally misread parts of the Bible because we lack the context that the original readers had. It is a reminder of how much care we should put into our reading of the scriptures, and not just read haphazardly.

In I Thessalonians 5:1-10 Paul describes the arrival of the day of the Lord. Considering that the preceding verses spoke of Christ’s return and when Paul uses the word Lord he is speaking of Christ in particular it seems most appropriate that this phrase mean the coming of Christ. Further support for this interpretation comes [...]

Carolyn Anne Venable wrote a new blog post: Seven Churches Chart 3 years, 6 months ago · View
I love charts because it helps me to see the big picture in a glance. Years ago, I made a chart of the various characteristics of each Church as described in Revelation 2-3. Unfortunately, that style chart doesn’t fit into this blog format so I’ve revamped it somewhat. Because the Lord admonishes us to “hear what the Spirit says [...]
Don’t let anyone deprive you of the promise, the Blessed Hope of His Coming! (Titus 2:13) Those who mockingly ask ’Where is the promise of His coming?’ scoffers! (2 Peter 3:3) Jesus WILL COME again! All through Scripture, is the promise of His Coming to judge evil and redeem His people! (See also Matthew 13:38-43)
PS: a clarification: ”I’ve always thought” should be clarified with ”since I realized He was coming again” after I was delivered.
