Perhaps the Book of the Prophet Zephaniah is skipped over by some who would rather not hear its proclamations of judgment: judgment on Judah (Zeph 1); judgment on the Gentile nations (Zeph 2:4-15); judgement on Jerusalem (Zeph 3:1-7); judgment on the nations: “All the earth shall be devoured with the fire of My jealousy.” (Zeph [...]

We live in auspicious times. The darkness may be getting darker BUT – halleluYAH! – the LIGHT is getting LIGHTER! (Isaiah 60:2) As the Lord sent a servant of His to tell me some years back, at my weakest physical point, near death, “The best is yet to come!” And it’s been getting better ever since! (Had [...]

“I come to the garden alone….” This hallowed hymn always strums an emotional chord deep within me. It beckons me to that place of sweet delight with the Lover of my soul. “And the joy we share, as we tarry there, none other can ever know.” It is there that we enter the Holy of [...]

INTRODUCTION When I was a baby Christian, a Bible teacher was inquiring which books we would like to study. I chimed in, “Isaiah!” His comment, however, was in the negative, saying it was a lot of dry history and judgments. That was certainly not my take on the prophet. Even as young in the Lord as I [...]

Okay, so I will say that this is coming from studying Leviticus for a long time in my OT class at DTS. I have been thinking, man, people don’t appreciate this part of the Scripture, but it is so rich if you simply take some time to draw it into today’s context (contextualizing). So, this didn’t [...] -

Hearing God: A Key Component to Staying Out of Sin Okay, so here is something that I have been realizing recently, both in the Word, and in my own life. The more I hear from God, it seems like the less I sin. Ironically (not really) the same seems to be true with the people I am [...] -

I went outside to pick some of my deliciously sweet oranges this morning and discovered a Christmas present from the Lord. There’s a grapefruit tree growing right alongside our orange tree with lots of BIG fruit! Now, I don’t know how it got there, but it must have been growing there for years, so close to the orange tree that we never noticed it!
Spiritually, I hope someday to awake and discover some gift or fruit of the Spirit that the Lord’s been working in me for years and I didn’t even know it! Has that not already been the case when in a particular situation, suddenly when you need it most, you have supernatural patience or supernatural joy or supernatural understanding or even supernatural love? And you ask yourself, “Where did that come from?” The Spirit of God in you is working!
Hebrews 13:20 Now may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant, our Lord Jesus, 21 make you complete in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

Toriano Mayo wrote a new blog post: Why Do You Try to Save Yourself by Works: Yes You Christians 1 year, 5 months ago · View
You know, something has been striking me recently as sort of surprising, and really disturbing. There are so many people who claimed they are saved by grace, but then they go on living, as if they were saved by works. We see this same problem in Galatians, and for some reason we think we are far [...] -

RIP – ”Rest in peace”. We’ve seen ”RIP” on tombstones and expressed the sentiment ”May he rest in peace.” There is a rest and a wonderful peace in Jesus Christ to be had in the here and now (Hebrews 4). Paul said ”I die daily.” It’s an interesting concept, one that on the surface may seem contradictory and enigmatic. Any insights?
For now, may I leave you with this blessing: May you rest in peace today.

Perhaps you’ve heard the cliché “the oldest lie in the book” referring sometimes to “the check’s in the mail” but “the oldest lie in the book” is literally in the Book of Beginnings, the book of Genesis. It is spoken by the “father of lies”, satan. Satan’s opening line, posed as a question (Gen 3:1), [...]

Having just last night watched ”The Book of Eli”, which I highly recommend (though maybe not for children due to violence and some inappropriate language used by the lawless ones), I am so thankful for the Word of God! The Word of God is ”sharper than a two-edged sword” (Heb 4:12) (Eph 6:17) and defeats evil. If you need victory in your life, learn to use the sword the Lord has so graciously given us – His Truth!
Matt 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. -

“…reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with all patience and teaching…” 2 Timothy 4:2 What Christian who speaks forth the word of God boldly has not been accused of being judgmental? There is a vast difference between judgment and reproof, between judging someone’s heart and intentions and correcting them out of love for their souls. Correction is not often perceived [...]

Arise, cry out in the night, at the beginning of the watches; Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord: Lift up your hands toward him for the life of your young children, that faint for hunger at the head of every street. Rahab is listed amongst the heroes of the faith in Hebrews 11 and again in James. I would argue that Joshua 2:8-13 which has Rahabs appeal shows that she truly did have faith in the Lord, and that she was willing to change sides as you put it, and how Ruth put it when she [...]

While the book of Revelation is chock-full of prophecy, its pages reveal the names of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Through those names we can know more of His awesomeness! “For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.” (Revelation 19:10c) Who is, Who was, and Who is to come reveals His eternal existence. (1:4; 1:8; [...]
