  • Perhaps the Book of the Prophet Zephaniah is skipped over by some who would rather not hear its proclamations of judgment: judgment on Judah (Zeph 1); judgment on the Gentile nations (Zeph 2:4-15); judgement on Jerusalem (Zeph 3:1-7); judgment on the nations: “All the earth shall be devoured with the fire of My jealousy.” (Zeph [...]

“I come to the garden alone….” This hallowed hymn always strums an emotional chord deep within me. It beckons me to that place of sweet delight with the Lover of my soul. “And the joy we share, as we tarry there, none other can ever know.” It is there that we enter the Holy of [...]

Okay, so I will say that this is coming from studying Leviticus for a long time in my OT class at DTS. I have been thinking, man, people don’t appreciate this part of the Scripture, but it is so rich if you simply take some time to draw it into today’s context (contextualizing). So, this didn’t [...]

Okay, I am writing this knowing that I probably don’t have this whole idea completely understood (obviously)! I definitely haven’t perfected it and would love some dialog as to whether or not you think this is right, mainly because I don’t wanting to be teaching truth if it is not complete truth, that’s scary (James 3:1). [...]

How our Father loves to bestow good gifts on His children!  (Matt 7:11; James 1:17Psalm 37 is a psalm of inheritance.  Notice how many times the word is mentioned.  This Psalm ties in with one of my other favorite Scriptures that promises us that for His chosen, God “works all things together for our [...]

We confess this frequently at my church:  “Christ has died. Christ is risen.  Christ will come again.”   These are foundational Christian beliefs.  Do you believe Christ is coming again?   Many, many  Scriptures reference the Lord’s Coming.  Some of these just reference the “Day” or the “Revelation” but are included to show how foundational the Second Coming [...]

What could possibly motivate an everyday couple to adopt a child? And if someone else I know adopts a child, but I do not feel led to do the same, what business is that to me as a Christian? Listen to how God has been speaking to specific people in Liveoak Bible Church out of Romans 15:1-14, [...]

So, I was praying today and I started to feel extremely convicted about “doing things” by my own power and strength. So, as probably everyone reading this knows, I started a new job as a small groups coordinator (and possibly Pastor, we will find out next Monday) and I thought, you know, I just need to [...]

Perhaps you’ve heard the cliché “the oldest lie in the book” referring sometimes to “the check’s in the mail” but “the oldest lie in the book” is literally in the Book of Beginnings, the book of Genesis. It is spoken by the “father of lies”, satan. Satan’s opening line, posed as a question (Gen 3:1), [...]

“…reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with all patience and teaching…” 2 Timothy 4:2 What Christian who speaks forth the word of God boldly has not been accused of being judgmental?  There is a vast difference between judgment and reproof, between judging someone’s heart and intentions and correcting them out of love for their souls.    Correction is not often perceived [...]

    Faith must lead to action.

It’s pretty clear: “faith without works is dead” (James 2:26).

“‘…show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works’” (James 2:18)

We are to live out our faith in obedience to God.

Today Tory asked me what it was that made me really desire to pursue God. I thought about it for a minute and told him that I think I really started passionately pursuing God because I started having consistent times reading the Bible. The more I read, the more I saw who God is. And [...]

This week’s Liturgy of the Word focused on living out the Gospel, that is doing the commandments God entrusted us. The first reading [...]

4 Rejoice in the Lord always: again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your forbearance be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. If God is everywhere, how can He be at hand with some and far from others (unbelievers)?  If He is with and in all believers, how can we draw nearer to [...]
