Matthew 26

I just seemingly randomly opened my Bible and there I was in the very center of the Bible. Now the verse smack in the middle of the Bible is Psalm 118:8 . Psalm 118, according to scholars, is a prophetic picture of Christ’s suffering and crucifixion. I had just finished praying for a man who had left a negative comment on a Christian video online. He said that even Jesus’ prayers were not answered. First he cited that Jesus prayed, ”Let this cup pass from Me.” The unbeliever said that God didn’t answer that prayer. What he overlooked was the next line, ”nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” (Matt 26:39) Now back to Psalm 118:5 . Since this is a picture of Christ praying in the Garden, the prophetic psalmist writes, ”I called on the LORD in distress; The LORD answered me….” So Jesus’ prayer was answered! But Jesus’ wanted more than His own will to be done. He wanted the Father’s will above all! Do we want first and foremost the Father’s will? Remember: Our Father knows best!

NIV translates Ps 118:5 as: ”In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free.”
I like the end: ”he answered by setting me free.” Free from our own will; free to seek God’s will!
