I would add an argument to the refs_read_by_user() which pulls in the references that the user actually commented on. This would allow for 2 separate lists. 1. those scriptures the user has read 2. those scriptures the user has commented on or blogged about You absolutely nailed the percentage_of_book() function. I can see how it [...]

Having separate Biblefox template directories would really open up a lot of possibilities, esp as the api is more fully developed. It would allow me to style the Biblefox portion completely different from the rest of the site. I do like the idea of the expanded template tags and functions. That would provide me the [...]

I have 3 spanish speaking friends who are pastors, so getting the translations into Spanish should be fairly simple for me. I will upgrade to (0.8.3) and get the information to them next week. They are on a crusade at the moment. I can walk them through the process of translating the .mo files by [...]

@Richard I noticed this site is getting hammered by the spam bots lately. Seems that every time you come in and clean it up, they come right back. Here is a pretty good discussion about bp spam with some ideas and plugins that actually work pretty well. http://buddypress.org/community/groups/how-to-and-troubleshooting/forum/topic/buddypress-spam/?topic_page=3&num=15#post-69499 I’d ignore the captcha as it is useless, [...]

concept: A person’s profile page would list all the chapters of the Bible on a single page. Each chapter which the user has completed as a Bible study and either made a comment about or written a blog post about would be highlighted with a link to their comments or post about that scripture. reason: [...]

I was doing a generic demo of the plugin itself for another pastor friend. I had him type in a chapter in the Bible so the reader would show the chapter he requested. After I showed him how he could make an activity comment about the scripture the first thing he asked me was how [...]

any news on the updated plugin with the reading plan and search functionality? I’m pretty much in the middle of getting my ‘framework’ install setup, and would love the opportunity to add in these features for testing. Obviously I don’t mind ‘hacky’ code, as I can get my way around pretty good. It is going [...]

thanks for looking into it. I erased the website and started over so the links are no longer valid. I’m in the middle of getting ready for multi-network buddypress, and had to get a lot of things situated first. I will be doing a lot more testing shortly and will report back anything new that [...]

I’m just curious if you happen to have any translation available in spanish that I can add to my server translations. I prefer the KJV, but beggars can’t be choosers lol.. also curious: I know that I don’t have the reading plans portion of the plugin yet, but by any chance is it setup for [...]

I had the same issue, only it is with other plugins on my site. Seems to function fine by ignoring the errors in firefox, but IE pukes all over itself. http://jerrygaffney.net/ I have not yet even looked into the problem, but figured I would report it as well. I just noticed that all the pop-up translations are coming from biblefox. I have the translation plugin activated and see no errors. Here is an example: http://mydreamhost.net/falling-down-in-the-presence-of-the-lord/ things to notice: 1. There are a few scriptures that somehow are not being picked up by biblefox. You are correct at keeping it as an option. I have worked extensively with custom post-types and taxonomies. For me at least I keep all of the logic within my theme’s functions.php file instead of plugins. The upside to this is that when the theme is activated everything is automatically there. The downside is that you can’t help someone with their own theme very easily.

Now that said, post-types are very powerful. Here are just a few examples of how I use them. (keep in mind my artistic ability is not so great. Once I get the functionality finished I will hire a design expert, so please be kind)

    1. Sermon video post type.
    http://jerrygaffney.net/sermons/
    2. Sermon audio post type.
    http://jerrygaffney.net/podcasts/
    3. Preacher bio pages
    http://jerrygaffney.net/preachers/
    4. church location pages
    http://jerrygaffney.net/locations/

Now I have taken this a bit farther than normal in that I have multi-directional relationships setup between the post types. Meaning that sermons are related to preachers and locations. Podcasts are also related to sermons, preachers and locations.

This allows separation of content type and design per type. What it also gives me the ability to do is have a user add a sermon video and then be able to select the ’preacher, location, and podcast’ that belong to that sermon. (multi-relational)

This way when a new sermon is added the user does not have to input the preacher or location each time a new post is created. They simply choose from the existing ones.

    Another example:
    http://jerrygaffney.net/user-testimonies/

This is gravity forms that allow a user to submit their testimony which is also a post-type. The post is set for moderation by the admin. So the pastor simply logs in and sees the new submissions, and publishes the ones they want. I then have an index page showing the site testimonies at:
    http://jerrygaffney.net/testimonies/

You will also notice the sidebar on most pages has testimonies. I am simply using a random pull from the post-type for display.

    Other ideas:
By separating out to post-types, we can have separate site areas for devotionals which cleans up the posts area. By going this route, instead of using category, tag separation, it becomes easier to control the have_posts() output, and of course templating is easier. It also makes rss feeds per type easier.

I’m really looking forward to trying out the Scripture reading plan plugin you are using here as well. I plan on using that plugin for our Men’s and Women’s and children’s Bible study groups.

Ultimately my idea by using so many post types is that it will make displaying related content much easier. Say a user wants to find all the video’s, audio podcasts, blog posts, devotionals, pastors-notes, and forum posts about ’healing’. It would be a simple matter of applying a custom taxonomy to relate them all and then pull in the custom loops together.

I do have a few other ideas which I will try to share later. I’m actually in church right now running the video/audio so it’s hard to concentrate on both.

Hope these ideas help spur on some ideas.

In reply to - shawn posted an update in the group Site Help : Blog about ’verse’ idea: When I search a scripture, I am given the ability to ’blog about x scripture or book’ and I love the concept.
