That is an interesting observation about God waiting until Josiah’s death to judge Israel. I am certain that it would be easier to see the ruin of his country when He can also fully see the glory of God than for him to see it while he was on earth. So, his death could be [...]

God does certainly seem to stand afar at times. I have felt that He has been absent in my career for a number of years. In this Psalm, God is absent from stopping the wicked from committing great evils. If there were ever a time to intervene that would certainly be the time. Yet God is withholding His judgment.

It is interesting that even the wicked recognize God’s absence. And this recognition encourages them to commit evil. Even still, God is good!

As I have been hoping for God to do great things with my career, yet none of these hopes have been realized, I have been thinking much about God keeping good things from us. I know that God has used this to make me think more about how wonderful He is. Not how wonderful His blessing are, but how wonderful He is!

Good insights. It makes me feel convicted . . . do I worship the blessings of God or God Himself? If I am so disappointed by not receiving the blessings of God, it might indicate that my hope is in the blessings and not in the Person. If our hope is in the Person, we will still be disappointed but our identity will not be shaken. Our identity will be in God.

Be encouraged, son! God has great things in store for you!

Hannah. I did not mention this in my post–maybe because I was waiting for a time that never came–but, I think that Antiochus is a type, perhaps a double-prophecy, of Titus in 70 A.D.

John, in Revelation 9:1-11, describes a woe against mankind produced by the sounding of the trumpet of the fifth angel.  The angel releases a horde of locusts upon the earth.  The description of the locusts indicate that they are evil and controlled by evil.  First they come out of a bottomless pit from where smoke [...]

In Revelation 7 John tells us that four angels are told to withhold judgment until the servants of God are sealed.  There are 144,000 servants to seal from the children of Israel.  In John’s vision he received an enumeration of the tribes and he recorded it by the Holy Spirit’s direction.  So there is something [...]

I’ve been reading Revelation, but have not posted in a few days.  One reason is that I would like to finish reading Revelation before analyzing much of what I’ve read.  Since much of what is written is mysterious it would certainly help to have the end in mind as I read through what is discussed. [...]

Though there is much that can be said about Revelation chapter one I’m not wanting to examine it all in depth.  However I would like to point out two things that strike me regarding what John says about Jesus. The first is that he is “the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the [...]

It is time for me to begin my study of Revelation.  First, I’d like to provide some historical context.  The book itself names the author as John and states that the vision therein occurred on the island of Patmos.  I completely believe that this John is the apostle though I know that this is sometimes [...]

After my quick foray into Daniel chapter nine, I’d like to return to Matthew 24 (and parallel passages).  Matthew 24:15 and Mark 13:14 both record Jesus quoting the “abomination of desolation” spoken of by the prophet Daniel.  Both authors also make an aside saying “whoever reads, let him understand.”  Since Matthew and Mark are not [...]

As part of my study of eschatology I am going back into some chapters of Daniel.  I was recently part of a study of Daniel which lasted a whole school year.  I finished that study with a fairly strong conviction that the book of Daniel is primarily a collection of prophecies which culminate in Christ’s [...]

In Matthew 24:1-2, Mark 13:1-2, and Luke 12:5-6, Jesus tells His disciples (and maybe others) that the temple in Jerusalem would be destroyed.  They use the word buildings in the plural as the disciples discuss the beauty of the temple, so I believe they are referring to the entire temple complex and not just the [...]

Today I’m continuing with II Thessalonians 2:5-11.  Paul provides more detail about the second event which Paul discusses must occur before Christ returns: the revelation of the man of sin.  First off, I am at a complete loss to what Paul is talking about in verses six and seven.  He speaks of something restraining, though [...]

It seems that the Thessalonians were often concerned about missing out on Christ’s coming.  Now in II Thessalonians 2:1-12, Paul is assuring them that they have not missed out on Christ’s coming.  He informs them that two things must occur before the day of Christ’s coming.  The first is the “falling away” (NKJV).  The second [...]

Paul provides encouragement to the Thessalonians in II Thessalonians 1:6-10 concerning Christ’s return.  One theme I have noticed about eschatology is that there are two strong themes: comfort and judgment.  Christ brings comfort to those who love Him and judgment upon those who hate Him.  In the passage in II Thessalonians there is strong emphasis [...]

In I Thessalonians 5:1-10 Paul describes the arrival of the day of the Lord.  Considering that the preceding verses spoke of Christ’s return and when Paul uses the word Lord he is speaking of Christ in particular it seems most appropriate that this phrase mean the coming of Christ.  Further support for this interpretation comes [...]

I Thessalonians 4:13-18 speaks of Christ’s return and taking His saints with Him.  The express purpose of Paul in this section is to encourage the Thessalonians (v. 18) in particular regarding those who are asleep (v. 13), that is the dead in body.  What stands out most to me is that whether you have died [...]
